IBM and the Mobile Web

IBM believes that mobile technology lies at the core of our ability to build a Smarter Planet.  Mobile technologies are improving the quality of life for all inhabitants.  In 2009, IBM announced a $100 million investment in the advancement of mobile services and capabilities for businesses and consumers worldwide.  Called IBM’s Mobile Web Big Bet, the initiative is already making an impact in even the most remote regions of our world.  And, we are only at the tip of the iceberg in understanding the power and significant impact of mobile technology.  Through advancements in hardware and software and joint collaborations, millions of people who have bypassed using the PC as their primary method of accessing the Internet are instead turning to inexpensive mobile devices for all kinds of things – from managing large forces of enterprise field workers and conducting financial transactions to entertainment, shopping and more.
